Clairwyn van der Merwe

Writing Specialist

A versatile, highly experienced writer and editor, Clairwyn van der Merwe has worked in a variety of settings, first in the media section of a government department, then as a newspaper journalist, later as a corporate publications manager and for the past 16 years as a freelance journalist and editor, and for the last ten years as G3 Business associate. She has long-standing working relationships with many clients, including North-West University, Unisa, the Auditor-General South Africa, the Tax Ombud of South Africa, Telkom and Fleishman Hillard.

One of Clairwyn’s greatest strengths is her ability to work independently and to produce high-quality work in many different formats, from annual reports and corporate profiles to research reports, feature articles, thought leadership pieces, staff newsletters, speeches, press releases, website content and audiovisual scripts.

She has a BA degree in English and Communications from Unisa, which she completed in 1986 while working part time at the Commission for Administration. Clairwyn then moved to The Pretoria News, where she spent just under three and a half years as a journalist covering a variety of beats, including general news, education, health and telecommunications, and occasionally politics and even crime. From 1992 to 2000, she worked at Telkom’s Corporate Communication division where she became publications manager.

Seeking greater flexibility and new opportunities, she left the corporate world in August 2000. Since then, Clairwyn has worked for clients in a wide range of sectors, including higher education, law, telecommunications, public sector auditing, public sector asset management and government pension administration. She has an excellent working relationship with G3 Business Solutions.
